Back when Guacamelee! 2 was first announced, it sounded like one heck of a game. It promised to stay true to its roots when it comes to gameplay and visuals, just with more chickens. And it appears that we’ll soon find out if that’s true, as the Guacamelee! 2 release date just hit us – August 21. Furthermore, we got an official price as well. At launch, the title will cost $19.99 (€19.99 in the EU). If you cannot wait already, you can go ahead and preorder Guacamelee! 2 on your local PlayStation Store or add it to your wishlist on Steam.
And, in case you missed the initial announcement, let us give you a brief rundown of what the game will include. DrinkBox Studios have promised us a very similar experience to what we have with the first Guac game. However, they are still doing their best to keep it fresh. The protagonist of the first title – Juan Aguacate – will return for the second game, cutting his retirement short. His adventure will pit him against an evil luchador, who has risen to power in an alternate timeline.
“We asked our inner skeletons what we should do for Guac 2,” commented Augusto Quijano, Concept Lead at Drinkbox. “We couldn’t decide whether to add Better Moves, More Interesting Platforming, Timeline Travel, Chicken Powers, or New Puns, so we added it all!”
The things above also come with new move sets, including a unique one for Juan’s chicken form, a brand new world, and twice as many enemy types as in the first game. The upgrade system has also seen some love and it is now redesigned from scratch, relying on different challenges around the world. And if you’re looking for some couch co-op action, you can get up to 4 players in the game at once with the seamless drop-in/drop-out system you will find in Guacamelee! 2.
However, the best aspect of the new title will remain the same as with its predecessor. Players will hear a brand new original soundtrack all through the game. It is composed by the same folk that did the music for the first game, so it is bound to be pretty solid if you ask us.
