In case you haven’t heard of Mars or Die!, do not fret. The PC indie tower defense game has gone under a lot of people’s radar, as it often happens with such titles. However, if you’ve been waiting for it to hit the stores, you are in luck, as Mars or Die! has made its way to Steam this Friday.
According to its Steam page, the game is a mix of tower defense and roguelite elements. It revolves around a couple of explorers sent to the red planet by their “Supremely Illuminated Leader,” so they can pave the way for his inevitable invasion. In order to complete their mission, the two brave souls will have to explore the surface of the planet, build and defend a home base, and fight the native one-eyed Martians. The game comes with a total of 9 scripted missions, but there is also an Endless Mode, which is where the title “really shines,” according to its developers.
Not the Best Player Reception
However, the Friday the 13th launch doesn’t seem as smooth as the devs would like. Mars or Die! currently holds a rank of Mostly Negative on the Steam Store. We have yet to play the game ourselves, but if we judge by the various reviews on Steam, most players seem to feel that the game is rather shallow for its $20 price tag. “I wouldn’t have an issue with this if the game was $5 or $10,” says one user. “But for $20 you could get a game like Slay the Spire instead.”
Yet, those same users point out that the game certainly has its appeal. The lighthearted humor seen in the trailers is also present in the game itself, according to players. Furthermore, the pleasing graphics certainly help with justifying at least a portion of the title’s price.
If you’re interested in picking up the game yourself, head on over to its Steam page. Also, do let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
